Parallel Programming course

Dear Colleagues and PhD students,

I would like to draw your attention to the course WI4265TU : Parallel Programming, which I will be giving in the coming quarter (Q3 2019/20) together with Erik Jan Lingen, who is a professional software developer and trainer at the Dynaflow Research Group (DRG). The course covers techniques for parallelisation and vectorisation on shared-memory machines (OpenMP and Posix Threads) and distributed memory machines (MPI, MPI-X). Towards the end of the course we will also cover GPU-programming with CUDA if time permits.

If you don't know what these terms mean just think of it as your own laptop and the laptop(s) of one or more of your colleagues. If you want to solve a big problem in shorter time, just use all these laptops together to compute the problem in parallel. This course will teach you how to program the code for it.

The course is design as hands-on sessions (3x 2h per week) with lecturing and practicing moments interwoven since there is only one way to learn parallel programming: Do it and fail forward!
Please forward this announcement to interested colleagues and students. For more information see

Kind regards,

Matthias Möller
